EigenLayer Announces Multi-Phased Mainnet Launch Strategy

EigenLayer is set to roll out a phased rollout for its core network, emphasizing security and performance with a focus on carrier and AVS integration.

EigenLayer, a prominent player in the Ethereum restaking space, has just unveiled its strategic roadmap for the mainnet startup, which is poised to cement its position in the decentralized ecosystem. The multi-phase approach is designed to ensure a smooth transition to a fully operational core network, with safety and performance as top priorities.

The countdown to the EigenLayer mainnet is underway, marking a significant leap in blockchain innovation. To ensure a secure and efficient launch, EigenLayer implements a gradual deployment process. This precise approach is aimed at minimizing risks and optimizing network performance as the number of users and operators grows.

Why gradual Mainnet deployment?

The phased launch decision is rooted in a commitment to safety and performance. A phased rollout allows for thorough testing and monitoring at each stage, reducing the potential risks associated with a large-scale launch. It also makes it easier to measure and improve network performance, ensuring a stable and scalable network for all participants.

The Road to the Mainnet

The journey to the core network involves several carefully orchestrated phases:

1. Final Test Network: The final phase of the EigenLayer test network has transitioned from Goerli to Holesky, providing a platform for over 6,000 operators to participate in successful tests through various upgrades.

2. Webapp & Contract Pause: As a preliminary step, the EigenLayer webapp and core network contracts will be temporarily paused, allowing for a controlled deployment and smooth onboarding of network operators.

3. Phased Operator Registration: Operators will be able to register in stages, allowing for controlled capacity growth and performance testing, laying the foundation for a robust network.

4. Launch of EigenDA: EigenDA, the first Application Specific Verification Service (AVS) on the EigenLayer infrastructure, will be introduced to provide hyperscale data availability for gatheringstargeting an initial write performance of 10 MB/s.

5. Completion of Mainnet Launch: After completing the previous stages, the EigenLayer web application will include a new betting dashboard and operator discovery page, with features such as re-bet delegation, deposits and withdrawals re-enabled.

6. The Emergence of the AVS Ecosystem: After launch, the EigenLayer core network will serve as fertile ground for a thriving AVS ecosystem as more AVS teams announce their innovations.

What this means for the crypto community

This strategy represents a remarkable achievement for the EigenLayer ecosystem and a step forward for the blockchain community. As the initial focus is on operators and EigenDA, the foundation is being laid for wider involvement in the future, including the development of comprehensive AVS implementation tools and resources.
